Micro DC motors as the name suggests are motors that have lower motor diameter than 10mm. These motors generally have high speeds and they don’t have reduction gears because generating high torque is not something expected from them. Coreless DC motors which are specifically designed for having low starting inertia for fast initial acceleration are generally classified as Micro DC motors.
Micro dc motors are usually used at low-power, battery operated devices. Like cell phones, small machines, small robotic designs, hand-held devices etc. Also these motors are extremely critical for applications such as airspace, robotics, medical and military systems. They are also preferred often by the quadcopter (or multicopter) hobbyists due to their high speed/weight ratio. Micro DC motors are great for use in quadcopter propellers.
Micro dc motor design is so light that (smaller than 1 gr) motor can reach very high rpms in milliseconds. This means very high acceleration and deceleration rates for a dc motor. As these motors have low-inertia they present advantages with hard stops. The rotor is not susceptible to damage when compared to bigger motors.
Coreless Micro DC Motors, are a specialized form of DC motors. These motors are used where small motors and rapid acceleration, is needed. The difference of a coreless motor is, this type of motor has a rotor that is constructed without any iron core.
