Crazyflie Nano Quadcopter 10 DOF Kit info

The Crazyflie Nano Quadcopter is one of the tiniest quadcopters which is 9 cm long and weighs only about 19 grams. Basically, it fits in your hand! The Crazyflie Nano Quadcopter can be used for entertainment by hobbyists, but it is mainly used as a development platform which can be used to experiment, develop and explore. Since it’s very small it is perfect for develoing new software and can easily be flown indoors. The quadcopter is able to lift a load up to 10 gr.

One of the main advantages of the Crazyflie Nano Quadcopter Kit is that its development platform is open source. The schematics and firmware/host source code is accessible via the developer website and the wiki. Developers can start by using the details and information on how to set up the development environment.

The 10 DOF version of Crazyflie has extra sesors for altitude and heading angle measurements. Although there is no firmware support for these sensors, they can be used to control heading angle and altitude. For developers who would like to develop a new algorithm or for hobbyists who would like to use some advanced algorithm, the 10 DOF version would be much more useful.

The Crazyflie Nano Quadcopter can be controlled by connecting to a PC or to another host which supports USB Host or OTG (like Android devices). The connection to PC is supported by Windows and Linux. Mac OSX has no official support, but it is handled by the community. The control of the quadcopter by the host is carried on by an integrated 2.4GHz radio chip which is used for receiving commands and sending telemetry data to the host. The communication with the host is handled by the Crazyradio 2.4 GHz USB radio dongle.

The Crazyflie Nano Quadcopter can be wirelessly programmed via a radio bootloader from a host PC. JTAG is not strictly needed to program the quadcopter, but for advanced development and debugging there is also an accessible JTAG interface. Note that the quadcopter is pre-programmed and programming it using a host PC is not a requirement.
